Diesel Service & Repair in Amsterdam, NY

Diesel service and repair for Amsterdam and Mohawk Valley trucks at Fogg’s in Scotia, 20 minutes east on Route 5 — Power Stroke, Duramax, Cummins and Isuzu. Live-data diagnosis instead of parts-swapping, fuel-filter and DEF intervals, emissions-system repair, towing-grade brakes. Diesels over 8,500 lbs get a safety-only NYS inspection.

Capital Region price range

$95–$200

applied to repair

Diesel diagnostics $95–$200, credited to the repair here. Fuel-filter services, glow-plug work, and high-capacity oil services are quoted up front by engine; emissions-system repairs are quoted after live-data diagnosis — never parts-cannoned. Fleet accounts get vehicle-class pricing on the monthly invoice.

Maintenance same-day; emissions diagnostics usually same-day with fleet units prioritized; DPF cleaning and injector work quoted with a timeline.

The Mohawk Valley trades run diesel: three-quarter-ton Power Strokes and Duramaxes pulling excavators and dump trailers off Route 30, Cummins-powered Rams on the Route 5S farms, Isuzu cab-overs delivering out of the exit 27 industrial area.

Many are past 150,000 miles and expected to go another hundred thousand, and the common failures are the ones neglect produces — injectors starved by fuel filters that were never changed, high-pressure pumps, EGR coolers, DPFs clogged by jobsite idling, glow plugs that quit on the first cold morning in Hagaman.

We diagnose with live data — rail pressure, injector balance rates, boost against commanded, soot load — and show you the numbers before quoting anything, because a derate can be a fuel filter or a high-pressure pump worth thousands, and the two look the same from the driver’s seat.

Preventive intervals are set per truck. Diesels over 8,500 lbs registered in Montgomery County take a safety-only NYS inspection — the diesel emissions program is downstate only — handled in the same visit.

Fleet accounts run on per-vehicle records and one monthly invoice; the one-truck roofer gets the same technician.

  • EGR valve and cooler service; NOx and differential-pressure sensor replacement
  • Fuel filter and water-separator service on interval; injector and high-pressure pump work

Getting here from Amsterdam

Route 5 east along the Mohawk — out of the city past Cranesville and Hoffmans, into Glenville as Amsterdam Rd, then into Scotia.

Turn left onto Route 50 (Saratoga Rd) at the Mohawk Ave light and the Fogg’s Automotive campus is about a mile and a half up.

From the South Side, Route 5S east to Rotterdam Junction and the Route 103 bridge gets you onto Route 5 without crossing the city. About 20 minutes; the Thruway from Exit 27 to Exit 26 is longer and tolled.

Questions

Is there anyone between Amsterdam and Albany who actually works on diesel pickups without sending them to the dealer?

Fogg’s, 20 minutes east on Route 5. Light- and medium-duty diesel is part of our fleet work every day — Power Stroke, Duramax, Cummins, Isuzu — so a Route 30 contractor’s truck gets diagnosed on live data and fixed here, not referred out.

Fleet units jump the queue; a single truck gets the same bay.

Do you work on diesel pickups, or only fleet trucks?

Both, and the work is identical. Owner-operators with one Power Stroke, Duramax, or Cummins get the same technicians, live-data diagnostics, and published $95–$200 diagnostic fee as a fleet of thirty; heavy trucks beyond our lift capacity we refer honestly.

Why does my diesel keep trying to regen?

Short trips are the usual culprit — the DPF needs sustained exhaust heat to burn off soot, and a route of two-mile hops around Schenectady interrupts the cycle every time. Sometimes it’s a stuck differential-pressure sensor or an EGR problem masquerading as a soot issue.

Live data tells us which, and the fix may be a scheduled forced regen rather than a new filter.

My DEF warning shows a countdown — how urgent is it?

Urgent. Once the countdown reaches zero, federal emissions logic limits the truck to low speed until the fault is fixed — not a shop policy, the law baked into the software.

Bring it in with mileage to spare and we’ll diagnose whether it’s fluid quality, a NOx sensor, the pump, or the dosing injector. Fleet units with a countdown go to the front of the line.

Will a DPF or EGR delete pass the New York State inspection?

We don’t do deletes, and you shouldn’t buy a truck that has one. Removing emissions equipment is a federal violation regardless of weight class.

On diesels under 8,501 lbs the OBD-II inspection fails it outright; heavier diesels get a safety-only inspection in Schenectady County, but a deleted truck still carries the federal exposure and voids the powertrain warranty.
