General Tire tires
near Schenectady, installed in Scotia.
Fogg’s Automotive Fleet & Service Center in Scotia, NY, minutes from Schenectady, sells and installs General Tire — the AltiMAX RT45 all-season, AltiMAX Arctic 12 studdable winter tire, and Grabber A/TX and HTS60 for trucks. General is Continental’s value brand, so the price is honest and the engineering is not. Quoted by size, mounted and balanced for $25–$40 per tire.

In plain English
Where General Tire earns its keep here
General Tire is the value tier we recommend without an apology. The brand is owned and engineered by Continental, built in many of the same plants, and sold at a price that makes replacing all four tires after a Capital Region pothole season painless.
The AltiMAX RT45 is the all-season we quote on most second cars, commuter sedans with a few years left in them, and crossovers whose owners want a solid, 75,000-mile-warranty tire without paying for the premium badge.
Its wet grip and wear are genuinely good — not “good for the price,” good — which is why it is the value tire on more of our quotes than any other.

For winter, the AltiMAX Arctic 12 is one of the few studdable winter tires still widely available for cars and crossovers, and for a driver on the rural roads of Saratoga or Montgomery County who sees glare ice every morning, a studded Arctic 12 inside New York’s October 16 to April 30 window is a cheap and extremely effective solution.
Run studless, it is a capable winter tire at a value price.
For trucks and SUVs, the Grabber HTS60 is a long-wearing highway tire with a 65,000-mile warranty, and the Grabber A/TX is a severe-snow-rated all-terrain with a 60,000-mile warranty that gives a working pickup real capability at a lower price than the premium all-terrains.
On fleet accounts, General fills the role of the sensible second tier: when a vehicle class does not need the premium spec — a yard truck, a low-mileage supervisor pickup, a van near the end of its lease — a General LT or AltiMAX spec keeps the account’s cost per mile down without sacrificing safety, and it comes from the same Continental distributor as the premium line, so sourcing and next-morning availability are identical.
We print the treadwear warranty on every quote so an owner or a fleet manager can see exactly what the premium tier buys over a General in cost per mile; the honest answer is often “not much” for the way that vehicle is actually driven.
Capital Region price range
USD$25–$40
per tire, mount & balance
Tire prices vary by size and brand — we quote options at good/better/best. Flat repair ~$35. Rotation $25, free with most other services. TPMS sensors typically $65–$120 each installed. Seasonal changeovers on your own wheels are priced like a rotation.
Tire installs about an hour; flats, rotations, and changeovers while you wait.

Questions about General Tire
Is General Tire a good brand or just a cheap one?
A good one. General is owned and engineered by Continental and built to Continental standards at a lower price point. The AltiMAX RT45 is a legitimately good all-season — solid wet grip, 75,000-mile warranty — and it is the value tire we quote most.
The premium brands buy you a little more wet braking and quiet; for many drivers that is not worth the difference.
Can I get studded tires for my car in New York?
Yes — the General AltiMAX Arctic 12 is one of the few studdable car and crossover winter tires still widely available. Studs are legal in New York from October 16 through April 30 only.
They are loud on dry pavement, so they make sense for rural, steep or routinely icy roads rather than a plowed Schenectady commute, where a studless tire is the better choice.
Which General tire is best for a pickup that works but mostly drives on roads?
The Grabber A/TX — severe-snow rated, 60,000-mile warranty, capable on gravel and a muddy site, and quieter than most all-terrains at its price. If the truck never leaves pavement, the Grabber HTS60 highway tire is quieter still and wears longer.
Do you use General tires on fleet vehicles?
Yes, as the second tier on accounts where a vehicle class does not justify the premium spec — yard trucks, low-mileage supervisor pickups, vans near the end of a lease.
It keeps the account’s tire cost per mile down, and because General and Continental ship from the same distributor, sourcing is identical to the premium line.
