In plain English

The straight story

An all-season tire is the compromise most drivers should make: one set that handles rain, dry pavement, light snow and the 90-degree days of a Capital Region July without a seasonal swap.

Modern all-seasons are far better in cold weather than the ones of fifteen years ago, and a newer class — all-weather tires carrying the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol — closes most of the gap to a dedicated winter tire for drivers who stay on plowed roads.

We stock and install both, and we will tell you plainly which one your commute actually needs.

All-Season Tires

The decision comes down to where you drive. A sedan that runs I-890 and Route 5 to downtown Schenectady every day, parks in a garage, and stays home during a storm is well served by a premium all-season with a long treadwear warranty.

A Subaru that climbs Glenridge Road or heads up the Northway to Saratoga before the plows do is a candidate for an all-weather tire, or for a true winter set on its own wheels.

Mileage matters too: a long-warranty touring tire pays for itself on a 15,000-mile-a-year commute, while a lower-mileage second car is better off with a value tier and the money saved.

Every all-season tire we sell is quoted by your exact size and speed rating at three tiers — good, better, best — with the brand-published treadwear warranty printed on the quote so you can compare cost per mile, not just sticker price.

Installation includes mounting, computer spin balancing, new valve stems or TPMS service kits, and a torque check. Rotations are free for the life of the tires, which is the single habit that gets an all-season to its warranty mileage.

We measure tread depth in 32nds at every visit and tell you when you are approaching 4/32″, the point where wet and snow traction fall off — well before the 2/32″ that fails the New York State inspection.

Good to know

Common questions about all-season tires

Are all-season tires good enough for Schenectady winters?

For most drivers on plowed roads, yes — a quality all-season handles a typical Capital Region commute.

If you climb hills like Glenridge Road or leave before the plows, step up to an all-weather tire with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, or run a dedicated winter set from November to April. We will tell you which one your route needs.

What is the difference between all-season and all-weather tires?

All-weather tires are all-seasons that pass a severe-snow traction test and carry the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol — Michelin CrossClimate2, Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady and Nokian WR G4 are the common ones.

They cost a little more and wear slightly faster than a touring all-season, but they stop and turn noticeably better in snow.

How long should a set of all-season tires last?

Premium touring all-seasons carry 70,000–90,000-mile treadwear warranties; value tiers run 45,000–65,000. Real life on Capital Region roads is usually a little under the warranty number.

The habits that get you there are free rotations every 5,000–7,500 miles, correct pressure, and an alignment check after any serious pothole.

Do you price-match the big tire chains?

We quote every size at three tiers and our installed prices compete with the chains.

Bring a written quote and we will tell you straight whether we can meet it — and what is or is not included in theirs, since mounting, balancing, valve stems, TPMS service and rotations are all in ours.
