Capital Region price range
USD$95–$200
applied to repair
Diesel diagnostics $95–$200, credited to the repair here. Fuel-filter services, glow-plug work, and high-capacity oil services are quoted up front by engine; emissions-system repairs are quoted after live-data diagnosis — never parts-cannoned. Fleet accounts get vehicle-class pricing on the monthly invoice.
Maintenance same-day; emissions diagnostics usually same-day with fleet units prioritized; DPF cleaning and injector work quoted with a timeline.
Ballston Spa runs on three-quarter-ton diesels — the excavators, builders and landscapers who supply out of Curtis Lumber, the Saratoga County department trucks, the farms toward Charlton and Milton.
These engines are expensive to misdiagnose: a Power Stroke that derates on the Route 50 hill could be a fuel filter, a failing high-pressure pump, or a clogged DPF, and the dealer’s answer tends to start at the costly end.
We diagnose with live data — rail pressure, injector balance rates, boost against commanded — and show you the numbers.
Preventive work is where diesel money is saved: fuel filters on schedule, DEF and crankcase ventilation looked after, oil analysis for trucks that tow hard, glow plugs and batteries tested before the first January morning on Route 67.
Heavy diesels over 8,500 lbs registered in Saratoga County take a safety-only NYS inspection — the diesel emissions program applies only in the downstate metro counties — and we handle it in the same visit.
Fleet diesels run on per-vehicle intervals with one monthly invoice; the single contractor with one truck gets the same technician.

Questions
Where should a Ballston Spa contractor take a diesel pickup that the dealer wants weeks to look at?
Down Route 50 to Fogg’s — 15 minutes. We work on Power Stroke, Duramax and Cummins pickups and Isuzu cab-overs every day, diagnose with live data instead of parts-swapping, and fleet units jump the queue.
If you run two or more trucks, an account gets you set intervals and one monthly invoice; pricing is quoted per account.
Do you work on diesel pickups, or only fleet trucks?
Both, and the work is identical. Owner-operators with one Power Stroke, Duramax, or Cummins get the same technicians, live-data diagnostics, and published $95–$200 diagnostic fee as a fleet of thirty; heavy trucks beyond our lift capacity we refer honestly.
Why does my diesel keep trying to regen?
Short trips are the usual culprit — the DPF needs sustained exhaust heat to burn off soot, and a route of two-mile hops around Schenectady interrupts the cycle every time. Sometimes it’s a stuck differential-pressure sensor or an EGR problem masquerading as a soot issue.
Live data tells us which, and the fix may be a scheduled forced regen rather than a new filter.
My DEF warning shows a countdown — how urgent is it?
Urgent. Once the countdown reaches zero, federal emissions logic limits the truck to low speed until the fault is fixed — not a shop policy, the law baked into the software.
Bring it in with mileage to spare and we’ll diagnose whether it’s fluid quality, a NOx sensor, the pump, or the dosing injector. Fleet units with a countdown go to the front of the line.
Will a DPF or EGR delete pass the New York State inspection?
We don’t do deletes, and you shouldn’t buy a truck that has one. Removing emissions equipment is a federal violation regardless of weight class.
On diesels under 8,501 lbs the OBD-II inspection fails it outright; heavier diesels get a safety-only inspection in Schenectady County, but a deleted truck still carries the federal exposure and voids the powertrain warranty.
